Providers Thriving Together — The Ever Present Circle: An Indigenous discussion around relationship, resiliency, and the importance of diversifying your circle with Duane Jackson
February 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Overview
Join us for the Providers Thriving Together series, part of the Thriving Project initiative. These free virtual drop-in sessions provide a facilitated space to experience camaraderie and peer support in the service of activating our collective resilience. At the sessions, presenters – usually rural peers from around the province—will share practices, frameworks or ideas they’ve found useful. Sessions will prioritize time for exploring these themes in both small and large groups.

Eligibility:
Duane Jackson is from the Gitanmaax of the Gitxsan Nation. With a background in early childhood education, he has worked with Success By 6 and Children First as well as partnered with various early childhood and health initiatives in BC. He has been a member of UBC’s Human Early Learning Partnership’s (HELP) Aboriginal Steering Committee (ASC) for the past 15 years.
Duane has been involved with the Patient Voices Network for 8 years, being involved in many initiatives attached to patient quality improvement. He was a member of the technical committee that helped create the Cultural Safety and Humility Health Standard that is currently in BC hospitals.
Duane is also focused on men’s health. He is founder of the Tauhx Gadx men’s program, which focuses on being a whole person. “The idea is not to look at what it means to be a ‘man’ within today’s society but rather to get an understanding of what it means to be a ‘whole person’.”
Most importantly, Duane is a family man – he and his wife are the proud parents of three children. Between his professional and personal life, Duane Jackson has had the opportunity to glean a great deal of wisdom with a child-centred focus.
Dr. Tandi Wilkinson is a long-time practitioner of rural emergency medicine from Nelson, BC. Her special interest in physician wellness arose from a need to understand her own experiences. She has created many workshop offerings to support physician wellness and is currently leading ‘The Thriving Project’ for the Rural Coordination Center of BC. She keeps (mostly) thriving by spending her spare time in the wilderness, having a regular yoga practice, and continuing to build connections in her community.
