This pilot program supports physicians relocating to rural British Columbia to practice rural medicine for the first time. Launched in Spring 2014, the goal of the program is to increase rural retention by facilitating the transition of physicians new to a rural practice environment.
This program pairs well-established and experienced rural family physicians and specialists (mentors) with family physicians and specialists who are moving to a BC rural community to practice rural medicine for the first time (mentees). Mentors and mentees will be paired for eight months during which they will share in a formal, structured mentoring relationship.
The Rural Physician Mentoring Program will be evaluated by both mentors and mentees after the pilot is completed.
