  • Community Information

Lumby is located twenty-five minutes east of Vernon, British Columbia and only fifty minutes from the Kelowna International Airport. Nestled on the northern edge of the Okanagan, the town’s location provides an excellent starting point for outdoor adventures whether they be fishing, hunting, hiking, or camping.

Although the village was incorporated in 1956, its history dates back to 1893 when the town site of forty acres was surveyed and named “Lumby”. Prior to that, a small settlement of pioneer farmers and gold miners lived in White Valley, whose beginning commenced with the Cherry Creek gold strike in 1862.

For years, farming and logging were the main source of revenue for the region, and so it is today, but on a much grander scale. Lumby is now considered to be the wood products and logging capital of the North Okanagan.

Lumby receives over 1,890 hours of sunshine each year with an annual rainfall of 43.6 cm and annual snowfall of 143.2 cm. Temperatures range from a frosty -6.5 to a comfortable 23.6 degrees C in August.
