Format: presented through a series of lectures and small group practice stations
Based on: CPR Level C as prerequisite
Equipment used: ACLS Provider manual, Drug Box and Lifepack, Monitor/Defibrillator Card awarded upon course completion Held at various rural communities. Instructors can travel to community. This instructor course can create future in- house instructors

Topics covered:

Basic life support care:

  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions
  • Management of cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation, termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care
  • Recognition of life threatening clinical situations such as stroke
  • Identification and treatment of ischemic chest pain
  • Identification and treatment of acute coronary syndromes
  • Resuscitation team concept communication

Learning objectives:

To acquire resuscitation skills in the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest patients; and, recognize and initiate the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest conditions.

Procedural skills learned:

To identify and manage respiratory arrest, ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, pulseless electrical activity and asystole, stable and unstable tachycardias and bradycardias.
