REAP’s High School Strategy (HSS) provides rural high school students with the information, tools, and role models they require to navigate their way towards becoming rural physicians.
The HSS informs rural high school students of the opportunities that exist in rural health care, breaks down misconceptions and perceived barriers about applying to medical school, and encourages them to pursue medicine.
Studies have shown that rural healthcare students frequently return to rural communities to practice. Through HSS, we hope to plant a seed of inspiration in high school students to consider rural medicine.
Rural physicians, residents, or medical students interested in presenting to rural high school students may contact REAP to obtain a copy of the multimedia presentation.
Rural eMentoring Program – the Rural eMentoring is an online mentoring program that connects rural youth (grades 8-12) with mentors attending post-secondary institutions across British Columbia. A mentor can answer questions about post secondary, choosing a career, “adulting”, what to do with your life, and so much more. Our mentors are students in post-secondary, so they know what it’s like to be in your shoes.
Below is a 5 minute video presentation provides a glimpse into the joys of rural life and rural medicine.
