The Postgraduate Rural Elective Support Program strives to increase residents’ confidence and interest in working in rural areas by increasing exposure to rural communities in BC during their postgraduate training. Through this program, REAP provides travel and accommodation funding to UBC Residents enrolled in Specialty Residency and Family Practice Residency Programs who spend elective time in Rural Subsidiary Agreement Communities.
Through the Postgraduate Rural Elective Support Program, eligible residents may apply for reimbursement of actual travel and accommodation expenses to the maximums identified below:
- Accommodation up to $350/week ($50/day)
- Roundtrip travel between the home training site and the elective site up to $1,000
- For rotations eight weeks or longer, additional roundtrip travel to the home training site is funded up to $1,000 at end of every four-week period.

Reasonable requests to combine the travel and accommodation allocations in cases where either expense is in excess of the individual limit will be reviewed by the REAP office on a case-by-case basis.
The electronic claim form and all supporting receipts must be submitted online within three months of elective completion or by March 31, whichever is sooner. Claims will not be paid prior to completion of the elective.
