Gibsons is among the larger communities of the Sunshine Coast, a region whose namesake derives from the considerable sunshine it receives. The relaxed style, stunning natural beauty and year-round recreational opportunities of the area make it a highly desirable place to take root. Its close proximity to Vancouver gives residents the chance to experience city life, and return home, all on the same day.
Gibsons, known as the gateway to the Sunshine Coast, is a thriving oceanside community slated to double its population of 4,000 over the next 25 years. Originally part of the territory of the Squamish Nation, present day Gibsons is known worldwide as the scenic filming location for the long-running television series The Beachcombers. Temperatures average 4 degrees Celsius in the winter and 17 degrees Celsius in the summer.

Practice Profile
The Gibsons Medical Clinic has 13 doctors with 16 exam rooms and a treatment room.
There are 2 part time RN’s. The clinic is on electronic medical records, with some scanned in reports.
Most doctors work 12-20 hours of clinic time per week. The program is set up that you are mentored by a physician for 2-3 weeks.
During that time you work their schedule. If they have admitted patients in the hospital, then you round with them in the morning. Ifthey do anesthesia or OR assists the you either help or do it yourself. You book your hours in the clinic at the same time they do.When your supervisor is on ER call you do it with them as back up.
You follow a group of patients at a nursing home as well as do some house-calls.OB is flexible. This sort of schedule is great in that allows you to see how a number of different doctors run things and get an idea of what might be best for you when you finally have a choice.

On the Experience
“I really enjoyed my time here. You work with a different preceptor every 2-3 weeks and get to see how they run their practice and deal with various patient presentations. I was given a lot of independence but if I needed help I never felt overwhelmed.”
