


Osoyoos is located at the junction of two primary connector routes – highway #3 from Alberta to Vancouver and highway #97, which runs from California to Alaska – and is 5 minutes from the Canada/United States border. It is accessible primarily by highway and bus service. The local airport services charter and private aircraft while the nearest commercial airport is located in Penticton, a major centre, 60 km (approx. 45 minutes) to the north. The city of Vancouver is 396 km to the west by highway.
Medical students and residents will not need a vehicle in this community during their rural rotation.

Must fly into either Kelowna or Penticton with Air Canada, West Jet or Pacific Coastal Airlines.

Greyhound offers bus service to Osoyoos.

Osoyoos residents enjoy a variety of recreational facilities as well as organized recreational programs. Facilities include a bowling alley, a curling rink, an ice arena, several golf courses, baseball fields, parks and beaches, a gymnasium, water slides, a horseshoe pit, a lawn bowling facility and soccer fields. The Mount Baldy Ski Resort, with 1500 vertical feet of terrain, is located 45 minutes to the east of town. Apex Alpine Resort is located 1 hour to the north of Osoyoos.
Osoyoos is surrounded with orchards and vineyards where produce and wine are available for sale on-site. Many vineyards offer tours and tastings. With its arid climate and location beside one of the warmest lakes in Canada, Osoyoos is said to be reminiscent of the Mediteranean. Recreational activities include sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, para-sailing, golfing, hiking, camping, mountain biking and bird watching.
