    Greyhound Canada provides regular service to southern Vancouver Island: Catch the bus at North Island Transport (7120 Market Street downtown) or wave it down on the highway.

    Public Transit
    Mount Waddington Transit operates an inexpensive mini-bus service that links Port Hardy and the Fort Rupert/Storey’s Beach area with Port McNeill and other regional stops.

    BC Ferries offers regularly scheduled ferries to and from Port Hardy.

    Hikers destined for Cape Scott can travel by water taxi’s operated by Cape Scott Water Taxi and Catala Charters.

  • The Port Hardy Museum offers permanent exhibits of First Nations history (including 8,000-year old artifacts, geology, logging) with rotating temporary exhibits, videos, photo albums.

    Wildlife lovers will find themselves located in a pristine wilderness environment that is home to many animals. It is not uncommon to see bears, deer, eagles or other wildlife feeding along the trails or in the parks.

    Sport fishing opportunities are available in local rivers and streams, and on both the east and west sides of the island.

    Port Hardy has developed a diverse parks and trails system for people of all ages and abilities. From the easily accessible Carrot and Rotary Parks to the rugged Fort Rupert Trail (two cable car crossings, one is on the Nahwitti River and the other is on the Stranby River), outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the diversity offered by these amenities. The area also offers many neighbourhood green spaces and playgrounds, plus a multi-purpose field at Ring Road Park that is used by youth soccer, baseball and other team sports.

    Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race visits Port Hardy every June, July brings the Great Duck Race followed by the Filomi Days with dance, parade, entertainment, fireworks and more.

    Late October brings the Annual Pumpkin Patch Walk in Carrot Park. Throughout the rest of the year, do a walking tour around town of expansive colourful murals and chainsaw carvings created by local painters, carvers and First Nations artists.

    From October through April enjoy the annual Concert Series organized by the North Island Concert Society. Entertainment from all over Canada comes to participate in this fantastic event which is usually held on Saturday. From country to jazz to comedy there is something for everyone to enjoy. The final concert is always partnered with a catered dinner.

    December is filled with holiday events including the annual Santa Claus Parade.
