The rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, home to the world-renowned Pacific Rim National Park and breathtaking scenery, is also the setting for one of Vancouver Islands most picturesque towns.
Once a timber and fishing town, Tofino today is an increasingly popular tourist destination. Located near the entrance to Clayoquot Sound, recently designated BC’s first United Nations Biosphere Reserve, the Tofino area boasts miles of sandy beaches, stands of old growth cedar, migrating gray whales, hot springs and sea lions. Tofino’s harbour bustles with local fishermen and is the launch point for numerous sea kayaking and whale watching tours.
The marine climate of the Pacific Rim is characterized by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Up to three metres of precipitation fall here each year, but snow is uncommon. Summer temperatures range between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, and winter temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius.
