Get to know Tom Skinner

Q: Where do you live? 

A: I am fortunate to live in Vancouver, which is on the ancestral, and traditional lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, TsleilWaututh Nations.

 

Q: What is your position at RCCBC? 

A: Project Manager.  

 

Q: What does that mean?   

A: My day involves supporting teams around the province in sustaining small-volume surgical and obstetrical programs. What does that really mean? Lots of Zoom meetings, data, and brainstorming! 

 

Q: Describe RCCbc in three words.   

A: Passion, determination, creativity.

 

Q: What motivated you to join RCCbc?   

A: I’m driven to improve access to care for people around the province!

 

Q: What do you like most about your job?   

A: Working with a team of such amazing people, both directly with the staff at RCCbc, our partners, and the providers around the province.  

 

Q: What motivated you to join RCCbc?   

A: When the pandemic hit, it was amazing to see the entire RCCbc team and a huge number of rural providers come together to launch Real-Time Virtual Support pathways throughout 2020.  

 

Q: What do you like to do on your days off?  

A: I like to ride my bike in the forest.

 

Q: Where is your favourite place in British Columbia? 

A: Cumberland, BC. Which is on the land of the K’omoks First Nation.

 

Q: What’s the next item on your bucket list?  

A: I’m hoping to, one day, cycle to each Rural Surgical and Obstetrical Networks (RSON) community. So far, I’m at four of 10 communities!
