Food is Medicine: A Diabetes Gathering

Community members & health providers are invited to ‘Food is Medicine: A Diabetes Gathering’ on Saturday, November 2 from 10am – 3pm at the Echo Centre in Port Alberni (4255 Wallace St) on the ancestral and traditional territory of the Tseshaht and Hupacasath First Nations.

Those living with diabetes, family members and supports, plus anyone who is interested in diabetes awareness is invited to share, learn and access health services related to diabetes wellness at this community based event.

The event will include a free and healthy lunch, plus…

Drop-in health appointments – Sign up at the registration booth on the day:

      • Blood pressure screening
      • Medication reviews
      • Blood Glucose screening
      • A1C assessments
      • Cholestrol screening
      • Kidney screening
      • Eye screening
      • Pedorthic assessments
      • Footcare
      • Dietician support and food demo

This event is linked to work being carried out by Dr. Ian Warbrick, Port Alberni internist and RCCbc physician lead, who has been developing a community partnership table in Port Alberni with the goal of supporting food-based approaches to help manage diabetes and possibly achieve diabetes reversal.
