Get to know Karen

Q: Where do you live?

A: I live in Robson Valley.

Q: What is your position at RCCBC?

A: I’m a Virtual Medical Office Assistant for the Real-Time Virtual Support team.

Q: What does that mean?

A: It means that I do anything in the moment that is needed from me, I just do it virtually!

Q: Describe RCCbc in three words.

A: Caring. Innovative. Supportive.

Q: What motivated you to join RCCbc?

A: Having worked along side RCCbc for a number of years, I had a good sneak peak at the work being done and the people who were doing it. I have worked in rural health care for a number of years as an MOA at the Valemount Health Clinic and really enjoyed being of service to our rural community. When I saw that RCCbc was hiring a virtual MOA, I jumped at the chance to be part of this amazing organization. Working with RCCbc will allow me to help not only my community, but be of service to all the rural and remote communities in the province.

Q: What do you like most about working at / with RCCbc?

A: I am still quite new and learning more about RCCbc everyday, but at the moment I would have to say that I like the people, inside our organization as well as all of the my new friends scattered in remote nursing stations across the province. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming.

Q: What has been one of your proudest moments working at / with RCCbc?

A: My proudest moment so far, was my first day on the Front Door. All of the callers were so appreciative of our service. I would announce to each caller that I am new and still learning, they all said close to the same thing “I am just so glad there is someone here to answer these calls, this service is so helpful and appreciated”. The nurses welcoming tones and the votes of confidence from the physicians made me feel very proud to be part of the RTVS team. I’m sure I will have many more proud moment in the days to come.

Q: What hashtags best describe your personality?

A: #loyal #spontanious #gameforanything

Q: What do you like to do on your days off?

A: On my days off I like to spend time with my family and friends, i like to putter around the yard with my animals (dog, cats, chickens) and have a fire or head to Jasper and see my nieces.

Q: What one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?

A: That i am a bit of a pyro… I really like having big fires!

Q: What one thing can you not live without?

A: I would not survive with out music or cheese.
