Ever wondered what happens during a shift at one of the locations where RCCbc’s virtual ER program, VERRa, is in place?
Dr. Brian Goldman, from CBC Radio’s White Coat, Black Art, was able to join the Real-Time Virtual Support program’s Virtual Emergency Room Rural assistance for a shift.
The recording, which features VERRa physician Dr. Michael Ertel, gives you a glimpse into what it was like to provide support to Mackenzie on a recent snowy night.
White Coat, Black Art is a radio program that aims to demystify the world of medicine and highlight things that work (and don’t work) in the medical system.

Made up of emergency medicine physicians and family physicians with emergency medicine training, the VERRa team supports small rural hospitals experiencing staffing shortages.
VERRa physicians support on-the-ground nursing staff to safely manage overnight patient care so that local physicians can remain rested and available to work the following day. The work can prevent diversion and support physician recruitment and retention.
