SPRUCe | Gender-Affirming Care for Pediatric Patients in Rural Communities
December 11 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Join this free online session, hosted by SPRUCe, with presenters Dr. Ingrid Cosio and Dr. Dan Metzger.
Learning objectives:
- Define gender affirming care for children and youth
- Review evidence-based interventions for gender-diverse children and youth
- Assess and plan for pubertal suppression in gender-diverse or gender questioning pediatric patients
Dr. Ingrid Cosio has been a family physician in Prince George for 20 years. She is the Physician Lead for the Northern Gender Clinic, which provides gender affirming care to BC’s Northerners, and co-lead of a local advocacy group called Physicians for Diversity & Inclusion.
Dr. Dan Metzger is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia, and a Pediatric Endocrinologist at BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Metzger and his colleagues—in collaboration with hospital- and community-based mental health professionals—began seeing trans kids in 1998, and they have now seen over a thousand trans and gender-diverse children and youth in the BCCH Gender Clinic, one of the busiest in Canada.
