The Rural Coordination Centre of BC has two grants worth up to $10,000 available for initiatives supporting rural health.
Rural Physician Research Grant Program
The Rural Physician Research Grant Program aims to empower rural physician researchers—or new aspiring researchers—to pursue innovative rural research and knowledge translation projects contributing to advancing rural health in BC. Through this project, rural physician researchers will be able to apply for research grants of up to $10,000 to support research activities. To be eligible, applicants must be a BC physician with experience practicing rural medicine and with demonstrable extensive connections to rural communities. The research must be pertaining to health in rural BC.
To apply for this opportunity, complete the forms available on the RPRGP page on the RCCbc website. The next application deadline for both grants is April 30.
Rural Global Health Partnership Initiative: For Health Equity at Home and Abroad
The Rural Global Health Partnership Initiative (RGHPI) offers grants to support partnerships between rural BC physicians or medical trainees and underserved rural communities in British Columbia, other parts of Canada, or internationally. These partnerships recognize that health (including planetary health) is the outcome of globally shared risks and responsibilities that require collective action to achieve good health for all. The Rural Global Health Partnership Initiative aims to enhance capacity for generalism in rural BC and to foster reciprocal learning in diverse health systems and community contexts. Another goal is to demonstrate how global health and planetary health (local and international) community partnerships can heighten awareness, create innovative solutions to address healthcare challenges, including, but not limited to, climate change, and lead to improved health outcomes, especially for underserved, marginalized, and Indigenous populations.
Note that rural physicians partnering with First Nations communities on projects (either research or non-research projects) are also able to apply for this grant.
Through this initiative, BC physicians or medical trainees (residents and medical students) with a demonstrated interest in rural medicine and global health can apply for a grant of up to $10,000 to support a global health partnership project with a Canadian or international partner. To apply for this opportunity, please complete the forms on the RGHPI page on the RCCbc website. The next application deadline for both grants is April 30.
