Participants also gain insight into additional training opportunities, as our presenters are highly engaged POCUS practitioners across British Columbia.

Skills Gained

  1. Describe the basic principles of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, including probe selection, needle visualization techniques (in-plane vs out-of-plane), and safety considerations.
  2. Identify key sonoanatomy for most commonly used nerve blocks in rural practice (e.g., femoral nerve block or fascia iliaca block, forearm blocks, popliteal block).
  3. Demonstrate safe procedural protocols, including sterile/clean technique, local anesthetic dosing principles, and strategies to reduce complications (e.g., intravascular injection, LAST).
  4. Recognize appropriate clinical indications and contraindications for performing ultrasound-guided nerve blocks in a rural setting.
