HOUSE OB

POCUS-OB

What is the HOUSE OB course?

The Hands On Ultrasound Education (HOUSE) Program OB course was designed specifically for rural health care practitioners who provide obstetrical care to patients. Participants of the course dramatically improve their management of patients in the first and third trimesters through the inclusion of hands-on sessions with live models. Instructors are all rural physicians who are experienced in bedside ultrasound administration.

Who should attend the course?

Physicians and midwives who work in rural communities and provide obstetrical care to patients.

What will I learn?

How to use bedside ultrasound to dramatically improve your management of patients in the first and third trimesters by answering these specific questions: Is the fetal presentation head down? Is fetal cardiac activity present? Is the placenta a safe distance from the cervix? Is there a normal amount of amniotic fluid? Is there more than one fetus?

Skills Gained

  • To understand the role of ultrasound as an adjunctive tool to clinical exam and history, and to be able to use this tool in a safe manner.
  • To understand physics and instrumentation aspect of generating an optimal ultrasound image.
  • To become confident in basic transabdominal scanning of first and third trimester pregnancies.
  • To understand and recognize normal ultrasound features of first and third trimester pregnancies.
