RTVS Provider Pathways
Health providers—including physicians, resident physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and midwives—in rural, remote, and First Nations communities can connect via Zoom or telephone with RTVS Virtual Providers to access free and friendly clinical support. RTVS Virtual Providers are eager to help with both urgent and non-urgent cases and questions, including case consultations, second opinions and ongoing patient support, patient transport coordination, point-of-care ultrasound, and simulations.
Calling an RTVS Virtual Provider is like calling a friend. They offer friendly, compassionate, non-judgmental, and culturally safe support while understanding the context of providing care in rural places.
Several RTVS pathways are available for healthcare providers in rural, remote, and First Nations communities. “Instant Access Pathways” are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “Quick Reply Pathways” are available weekdays from 9 a.m. to late afternoon, and mostly operate on a call-back basis.
Click on each Pathway, below, for more information and to find out how to connect.

The Real-Time Virtual Support Poster is aimed at helping physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses in rural, remote, and First Nations communities navigate through the RTVS pathways.
It includes all the information needed to connect with Virtual Physicians when providers need their support.
Locum Assistance by Telehealth
If a locum physician cannot be recruited physically into the community, support via Telehealth is allowed if supported by the community/host physician and the Health Authority Medical Director where additional resources are sent into a community. Please email email@example.com or leave a detailed message on at 1 (877) 357-4757 for further information on your situation. Visit https://www.locumsruralbc.ca/COVID-19-Announcements for additional information.
Real-Time Virtual Support is an initiative of the Virtual Health and Wellness Collaborative for Rural and First Nations BC. RTVS is made possible through the incredible work and collaboration of Rural Coordination Centre of BC (supported by the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues), First Nations Health Authority, Provincial Health Services Authority, Providence Health Care, BC Emergency Medicine Network, and UBC Department of Emergency Medicine.
Please check back often to see what new tools are available or subscribe to RCCbc’s eNewsletter and click the RTVS updates box to have updates delivered to you. (Please subscribe with a personal email address as health authority servers will likely filter and/or block our newsletter).
